Canoe and Hike Combo

Day 1 begins with a leisurely paddle down the West Branch of the Penobscot River starting just below Abol Bridge. We will take our time and check Compass Pond for moose and other wildlife and then paddle some of the back channels of this prestigious river. We will stop at the ice caves on First Debsconeag Lake and then have a shore lunch on one of the many sand beaches. After lunch we will run Passamagamet Falls and end our trip on Ambajesus Lake.

Day 2 - This day begins with a short travel into Baxter Park about 20 miles to the Roaring Brook parking area. The hike begins at Roaring Brook and heading towards Chimney Pond. We will stop at Basin Pond for a short break. Once at Chimney Pond we will ascent on the Saddle Trail ending at Baxter Peak. At about 0.1 miles from the peak we will decide, weather permitting, if we want to cross Knifes Edge and choose our trail for descent. Total hike is about 10 to 12 miles so proper planning is a must. We want to make your trip of Katahdin is as exciting and enjoyable as possible so we will make sure you are properly equipped for the trip.
